The Department of Chemical Engineering provides varied educational and training courses to cultivate the best domestic chemical engineers who can contribute to their society and nation with professional knowledge and conduct. The Department of Chemical Engineering began as one of six original departments in INHA Institute of Technology in 1954, and then was reorganized into a chemical engineering major in the school of chemical engineering in 1996. The Department of chemical engineering established an M.S. program in 1958 and a Ph.D. program in 1970.

The purpose of education in the Department of Chemical Engineering is to educate excellent engineers who have practicality and creativity, and contribute to industrial development in the domestic chemical engineering and industrial chemistry.

The Department of Chemical Engineering provides fundamental knowledge of physical and chemical science. Finally, We promote overall understanding and practical application of this fundamental knowledge. In addition, we encourage the engineers to have a balanced education through humanities requirements.

Field of education: Understanding of basic science and cutting-edge engineering knowledge
  - Foundation of basic scientific principles
  - Cultivation of practicability and creativity as chemical engineer
  - Introduction to cutting-edge science (nano, environment, material field, etc)

Field of research: Practical experience of accumulated engineering knowledge and conducting research
  - Study, experiment and report preparation by group for specific research topics and discussion with supervisor
     and assistant
  - Development of research projects for education from Korea Science and Engineering Foundation and Korea
     Research Foundation
  - Support of Faculty research activity: Opportunity of industrial field practice during vacation
  - Opportunity to present at symposiums or workshops

Establishment of branch research center and industrial cooperation system
  - Cooperation research between the faculties and graduates, supported by Institute of Clean Technology of
     chemical engineering department
  - Cooperation with national research institute and Namdong industrial complex
  - Special lectures from industry professionals

Freshman
: fundamental subjects including mathematics, chemistry, physics
and biology, and non-science subjects as needed
Sophomore: Study of technology and application of chemical engineering through experiments as well as mandatory subjects and optional subjects in the chemical engineering major

Junior
Training to perform independent research by taking various core courses (chemical engineering thermodynamics, heat transfer, mass transfer, chemical reaction engineering, organic industrial chemistry, inorganic industrial chemistry)

Senior
Cultivation of chemical engineers with cutting-edge knowledge by taking various optional subjects (interfacial engineering, catalyst engineering, plasma engineering, process control, plant design, transport phenomena, petrochemical industry, design of chemical engineering equipment)

After graduation, there are a variety of career options available to the graduates in oil refineries, petrochemical industries, and chemical engineering industries industries related to food, medicine and cosmetics, to semiconductor, energy, environment, electronic materials, nuclear energy and water quality control.
